Spring starters are manually wound by hand and do not require any electrical supply to initiate starting function.
It replaces electrical starter motors and allow engines to be started easily and safely without battery or alternator. It is also popular for standby starting system.
Spring starter convert stored potential energy, in the form of a wound up spring, into rotational kinetic energy used to turn over and start the engine. The spring is wound by simple hand cranking. The energy is released by pushing a lever on the starter.
Spring starter uses disc spring which are conically shaped steel washers which can be compressed by means of ball screw.
Disc spring benefits for starting are:-
- High output torque
- Robust in construction.
Spring Starters are available to suit various makes of engine such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Deutz, Volvo and many other engines.
